Students need to be surrounded with books of all kinds and given the opportunity to read them every day.  Conversations about reading-what is being read and what students are getting from their books-need to be an ongoing event.

Students will rise to the level of a teacher's expectations.  We expect our students to read every day and to read a large number of books.  Not only do we have high expectations for reading, we have high expectations for our students to be successful.

1. All students will be expected to read at least 10 books this school year: at least 1 book from each genre.

2. Each book should contain a minimum of 50 pages.

3. All students will record what they are reading and information about their book in their reading journal.

4. All students will read for 15 minutes at the beginning of class each day. Each student will be expected to bring their book with them to class. A book will be provided for them if they have forgotten theirs.

5. Every six weeks, each student will be expected to present a “Book Commercial”. This will count as 2 daily grades.
